Here’s some interesting pictures I took yesterday of some strange fungus that was growing in some mulch in my back yard. To make it even more interesting, it was starting to ooze a red colored “jelly”, like it was bleeding.
This entire event didn’t take very long, as it starts off as a very faint patch of yellowish specks in the mulch, and explodes into this puffed up object like this. I don’t know how long it takes to start oozing though, because this particular one, I didn’t catch until after the fact.
I did see other spot starting to grow yesterday, and by the next morning it went from a barely noticeable patch, to kinda what you see now. I think the weather got a bit colder, so the newest patch didn’t look to impressive. I have no idea what the heck this is. All I know is, It might be a weird mushoom because my brother came over and decided to poke at it to see what was making it ooze. The inside looked like a mushroom, but with no stalk.
These are the original photo’s but re sampled to 800 x 533. All were taken with a Canon Rebel XT. Most were with the standard 55mm lens. The remaining were done with my 300mm IS USM. Read more to see all the other pictures.
