Unity3d 2d Demo

Here’s a little test I’ve come up with using Unity3d. It’s not so bad once you get the hang of thing. This was the result of about 3 days learning the system. Unitytutorials.com had to be the best source to learn this stuff.

I highly recommend reading over the “How to Make a Game in Unity3d” tutorial. Granted, it doesn’t teach you everything, but more than enough to get you started.

Also, Unity3d is now free. Which is a good thing. The first time I looked into this was a couple months ago, and I think it was only for Mac. It was confusing as hell, and I forgot all about it. It would have sucked to come back and try again, only to find the trial had run out.

Anyway.. just catch the falling bombs. After each level the bombs drop more frequently. After a certain point, the game will reset if the frequency gets below 500ms. Don’t think you can stay on one bomb forever, I have things in place to make that pretty hard to do after a while.

The Mafia game has been updated with a tutorial system now. By the time you complete it, you’ll have your first piece of property, a new car and a good understanding of how the game works.

Still have lots of work to do. Enjoy!

Mafia Game Beta is ready!

After almost 9 months of slaving over this, I’ve finally got a working demo of my Mafia game. There is alot of work that need to be done still, but this will at least start showing some of the concepts I’ve been working on.

Off to the right in the sidebar you will see the game running. Go ahead and register an account and test things out. Don’t be surprised if your game looks like it reset, I’m still adding features and whatnot and I might have to reset ever once in a while. I also need to change a lot of the text around, and find someone to do some art work.

I have a million ideas I want to add, but if there is a feature you really want to see, please leave a comment here, I’ll see what I can do. If you hate it or love it, leave a comment anyway.

If you have an iPhone, you can use the browser and zoom in to the game section, and it will work just fine.

Engines of War (iPhone) Command List

Just got this the other day, not bad, just like all the other Aftershock releases. Seriously, stop with the skinning and actually make something unique.

I’m still working on my game and it’s coming along nicely. Many new features added, and nothing like anything out there today.

Anyway, if you have Engines of War for the iPhone, leave your Command Code here

How to Get XNA Projects to Run Without Pixel Shader Support

It’s taken some time, and I’ve finally decided to take another crack at this issue. The issue is, you can not run XNA projects on a machine without pixel shader 1.1 or greater. But with a bit of creative editing, you can run those projects now, without PS support. I’ve tested this on a IBM Thinkpad T41.

This is the error you get with a machine without Pixel Shaders.

Now that the new ReferenceGraphicsDeviceManager is being called instead of the original GraphicsDeviceManager you can get the projects to at least run. I haven’t testing any sprites or anything, I’ll get to that later. My main goal now is to port this Zune Physics Engine I did back in November 2008, to be able to run on a windows box.

There is a ReferenceGraphicsDeviceManager class floating around that needed to be edited. There were calls to a CreateOptions enumeration that are not being used anymore. All references to that were deleted or commented out. And some other function(s) use TextureUsage now. You may also need to go into your DirectX settings and change a setting to use software raster possibly.

Get the project here, and get the ReferenceGraphicsDeviceManager here

My Secret Project

I’m only posting this on here because the company Aftershock will probably end up deleting this from the www.getsatisfaction.com/aftershock forum. I’ve played their Mafia Live game for about 3 months now, and everything about that game seems to be going down the tubes. That’s where I’ve decided to do something about it.

I don’t have much time to go into too many details, and if AS wants to borrow some of these ideas, go ahead, it’s saves me the time of creating an iphone version of what I’ve worked on. Although I could simple use the webkit and fake the app like AS has done.

As the saying goes, if you don’t like the way someone does something, do it yourself. Well that was my goal. I wanted to make a “mafia” game that was what I believe far superior to what’s out there now.

So what I’ve done was reproduced pretty much what Mafia Live (Undead Live) does. From property, to jobs, to “zen points”.

The only problem is, as it stands Mafia Live at the root, is BORING. You do the same thing over and over, no element or surprise, nothing special, just the same old mafia game. Nothing in this game means anything.

For instance, health. whats the point? nobody puts a single point into it and if they did, it was a mistake. There shouldn’t even be an option to increase it, hell the option should be to take health points away.

This is the only “rpg” where you take something from someone after doing damage alone, normally you take something from someone after you defeat them.

Stats have meaning, want to fly a chopper, you better have the stats to be able to fly it. None of this 500 DEF 1 ATT crap.

Property is boring, you save to buy the next big thing, then you do it all over again. My system gives meaning. You buy a building, then you can staff it. You create a “guard” who you can give members/weapons/armor/vehicles to. Now players need to beat this guy to get the reserves of the building.

Gas stations, players can operate them and set prices for gas. Players have vehicles, why not “use” them.

Jobs/npc’s/players have drops, items that you can use and trade.

Basically, players get to create there own city and use the resources within it.

Secondary games, say you rob someone, there is a chance you can get thrown in jail, guess what, now there’s another area someone can try and control.

Security, it will be a cold day in hell before someone pulls a stunt like what happened a couple weeks ago. The last thing I’ll want to do is a rollback.

I have a ways to go before anyone gets to play this, and it’s really only being done as a challenge to see if I can actually do it.

If anyone ever played legend of the red(green) dragon, you probably have fond memories of that game. That game has staying power, i can’t say that about this ML.

In 15 years, will anyone ever look back and say, wow mafia live was such a great game, wish I could bring back the memories.

I have things that need to get done, and one day my “mafia” game will be released, but until then it’s pretty fun making my own web based RPG type game. Have a good day and if anyone from AS is reading this, good luck, you’re 15 minutes are almost up.

Mafia:Live iPhone Join The Family

Join the Chillin family today. If you have an iPhone, don’t forget to grab this great little app from the store.

If you want to join, the family code is 195064788.

For less than 3 bucks, this is a nice little way to waste way too much time on your iPhone. If you want an invite, and are not in a family yet, leave a comment and I’ll send you an invite. You’ll get a code that you can redeem to get $10,000 to start with. And it looks like you get some loyalty points as well.

My only gripe so far is that fact that, unless you get some family members to join, you can’t really enjoy the entire game. In later levels you are all but required to have more members to do harder things.

Anyway, so far it’s not that bad, then again I’m only level 14 at the moment. So go grab Mafia:Live for the iPhone and join the family.
